India's ultra-rich population grows four-fold in five years
The number of people in India who earn more than Rs 100 crore each year has grown a lot in the last five years.
The government says this number has gone up four times from 2021 to 2026.
Private studies also show that India has many very rich people, and the wealth is not shared equally.
The richest people in India have a lot more money than the rest, and this gap has not been getting smaller.
Some studies say that the richest families have seen their wealth grow a lot, while the poorest half of the population has very little wealth.
The number of individuals earning over Rs 100 crore annually in India has increased four-fold from 2021-22 to 2025-26.
The government does not have data on the aggregate wealth of billionaires as the Wealth Tax Act was abolished in 2016.
India currently has 207 dollar billionaires and is projected to have 313 by 2031.
The top 1% of the population holds 40% of the wealth, highlighting significant inequality.
The wealth of the richest 10% has grown significantly, while the bottom 50% holds only 6.4% of the wealth.
