Indian Army, ITBP Deploy Himalayan Canines Along Ladakh Frontier
India has sent specially trained dogs to watch parts of its border in Ladakh.
The dogs work with the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force.
Some are local Himalayan breeds that can handle very cold weather.
They can warn soldiers about possible intruders.
Other dogs help find explosives and mines.
Some assault dogs may respond if patrol teams are attacked.
The dogs are used at very high altitudes, including around 14,000 feet.
China has also used large Molosser dogs and reportedly robotic dogs in the mountains.
The deployment is happening during an ongoing border standoff.
The Indian Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force have deployed dogs along the Ladakh frontier.
Native Bakharwal and Tibetan Mastiff dogs have been trained to alert sentries to possible intrusions.
ITBP assault dogs, including Belgian Malinois, are stationed at sensitive bases along the Line of Actual Control.
Canines conduct surveillance and detect explosives and mines in high-altitude forward areas.
