EC to Begin Voter Roll Revision in Several States
The Election Commission is starting a project to update voter lists, called Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
This update will begin next week in about 10-15 states.
The goal is to make sure the voter lists are correct.
This will include checking where people were born to weed out any foreign illegal migrants.
Some states, like Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal, will have elections in 2026.
This process is similar to one recently completed in Bihar.
The EC held meetings to prepare.
States with ongoing or upcoming local elections won't participate in this initial phase.
The Election Commission (EC) will launch a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls next week.
The initial phase will begin in approximately 10 to 15 states.
States going to polls in 2026, including Assam, are part of the initial phase.
The voter list cleanup will not be conducted in states with local body elections underway.
