Maharashtra Haemophilia Patient Dies Amid Factor VIII Shortages

Rajan Ganpat Sankpal was a 47-year-old man with haemophilia A. He had bleeding inside his brain and also suffered seizures.

Doctors needed a medicine called Factor VIII to help his blood clot.

They urgently sought 8,000 IU of the medicine.

Sankpal died by the end of July.

Patient groups say government hospitals in Maharashtra have continued to face shortages of Factor VIII.

They say this has happened even though funds were allocated by the Centre.

Nearly 5,500 haemophilia patients in Maharashtra may need access to these important medicines.
