Trump Praises India's Voter ID System, Pushes Save America Act
Donald Trump is the president of the United States.
He wants Americans to show a photo ID when they vote.
He shared his idea on a social media site called Truth Social.
Trump says India is a good example of how voting should work.
India's election boss, Gyanesh Kumar, asked how the US can hold elections without a valid photo ID.
In India's last election, 646 million people voted.
Almost all of them voted in person, and every single voter had a photo ID.
Trump wants the US to pass a law called the Save America Act.
This law would make voters show proof of citizenship and identification.
Some lawmakers do not agree, and the plan has not passed yet.
Trump praised India's election system, citing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's question about how US elections can be held without a valid photo ID.
India's last election had 646,000,000 voters, with less than 1% voting by mail and every voter required to hold a valid photo identity document.
Trump called for passing the Save America Act, which would require proof of citizenship and voter identification for federal elections in the US.
The articles differ on timing: two say Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday, while one says he spoke on Tuesday.
Gyanesh Kumar reportedly questioned US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, who met the CEC on August 12, over the lack of voter identification in American polls.
