President Rejects Bengal Bills on University Chancellors

President Droupadi Murmu said no to some bills from West Bengal.

These bills wanted to change who is in charge of the state's universities.

Right now, the Governor is the head of these universities.

The bills wanted to make the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, the head instead.

The West Bengal government thought this would make things work better.

But the President had some legal concerns and didn't agree.

So, the Governor will keep doing his job as the Chancellor.

This decision has made the argument between the state government and the Governor's office even bigger.

The opposition party, BJP, said this change would make universities less independent and bring more politics into education.
