Hindu Group Seeks to Block M.F. Husain Painting Auction
A Hindu group wants to stop an auction of paintings by M.F. Husain, a famous but controversial artist.
They are upset because some paintings show Hindu gods and goddesses in ways they consider inappropriate.
The group believes the art insults India and its culture.
They are asking the government to ban the auction and possibly take legal action.
Husain's art has sparked controversy before, leading to legal issues and him leaving India.
Supporters of the artist see the work as an expression of artistic freedom.
The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti demands a ban on the auction of M.F. Husain's paintings in Mumbai.
The group alleges that the paintings include controversial depictions of Hindu deities and Bharat Mata.
They are protesting against the sale of the artist's work at Pundole Art Gallery.
Husain's art has previously faced legal challenges and criticism for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
The Samiti wants the government to declare a specific painting as anti-national and ensure its destruction.
