Coimbatore Faces Rabies Outbreak Fears After Dog Deaths
In Coimbatore, many stray dogs have been found to have rabies, a dangerous disease.
Over the past few months, tests on dead dogs showed that 25 were infected.
Authorities are worried about a possible outbreak.
They've found areas where there are many unhealthy or aggressive dogs, and they are vaccinating and sterilizing the dogs to stop the disease from spreading.
An animal welfare group tested the dogs.
The city is also trying to control the number of stray dogs to keep people safe.
At least 25 stray dogs have tested positive for rabies in Coimbatore.
Authorities have identified 14 hotspots based on public complaints.
49 dogs were captured from these areas; most died after capture.
Brain tissue samples confirmed rabies in the deceased dogs.
Authorities are increasing vaccinations and sterilization efforts.
