Durgapur Rape Case Hearing Adjourned Due to Prosecutor's Absence
A court case about a medical college student who was allegedly gang-raped in Durgapur had to be postponed.
The judge was upset because the special public prosecutor, who is supposed to represent the state in the case, was not present.
The prosecutor's junior, who has been appearing in court, does not have the required 10 years of experience, which the defense lawyers say is a problem.
The prosecutor says he has the right to assign a junior, but the judge and the defense lawyers are not happy with the delays.
The case involves six accused, including the victim's boyfriend, and the incident happened on 10 October near the college.
The Durgapur medical college student's alleged gang rape case was adjourned due to the absence of the special public prosecutor, Bivas Chatterjee.
Defense lawyers questioned the legal validation of Chatterjee's junior, Moumita Biswas, who has been appearing in court, as she does not meet the 10-year experience requirement.
Judge Lokesh Pathak expressed his displeasure with the recurring absence of the special public prosecutor, which has been delaying the court proceedings.
Chatterjee defended his decision to assign a junior, citing the Supreme Court's empowerment to do so, but the defense lawyers protested the delay.
The case involves six accused, including the victim's boyfriend Wasef Ali, and the incident occurred on 10 October near the IQ City Medical College in Durgapur.
