I. P. Gupta Joins Bihar Opposition Alliance, Advocates for Weaver Community Quota
A politician named I. P. Gupta, who used to be with the Congress party, has started his own political group called the Indian Inclusive Party.
Now, his party is joining a bigger team of opposition parties in Bihar to compete in the upcoming state elections.
Gupta is part of a community of weavers, and he is trying to get them special rights, like a separate reservation for jobs and school.
This is because a recent court decision moved his community back into a group that has fewer benefits.
He became well-known after holding a big rally to talk about his community's problems.
He is running for a seat in the election himself, and his party will contest a few other seats too.
He says he identifies with hardworking people, like a laborer's son.
I. P. Gupta, founder of the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP), has joined the Mahagathbandhan opposition alliance for the Bihar Assembly elections.
The IIP will contest three seats: Saharsa, Beldaur, and Jamalpur, with Gupta himself running in Saharsa.
Gupta is advocating for a separate quota for the Tanti/Pan samaj (weaver community), which was recently shifted back to the EBC category by the Supreme Court.
Gupta, an engineer and former Congress leader, gained prominence after a rally demanding separate quota for his community.
He previously ran for office in 2020 from a reserved SC seat but lost, and later joined and then left the Congress party.
