IIT Kanpur Professor Named National Academy of Sciences Fellow
Professor Shantanu Bhattacharya from IIT Kanpur has received an important science fellowship.
The fellowship comes from the National Academy of Sciences, India.
It will officially take effect on January 1, 2027.
He was chosen because of his outstanding scientific work.
His research involves creating useful materials and finding ways to make them.
These materials can be used in tiny medical devices, sensors and water-cleaning technologies.
His work also covers energy storage and very small fluid systems.
He leads one scientific research organisation and temporarily leads another.
IIT Kanpur congratulated him on the achievement.
IIT Kanpur mechanical engineering professor Shantanu Bhattacharya has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India.
The fellowship takes effect on January 1, 2027, in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions.
His research covers functional materials and fabrication processes for applications including Bio-MEMS, lab-on-chip systems and nanotechnology.
His work also includes microfluidics, sensors, acoustic metamaterials, water remediation and energy storage devices.
Bhattacharya is also Director of CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh, and holds additional charge as Director of CSIR-CEERI, Pilani.
