Maharashtra Departments See High Number of Corruption Cases in 2025
In Maharashtra, a special police unit that catches people taking bribes, called the ACB, looked at their cases for most of 2025.
They found that offices dealing with land and property records had the most officials caught taking money.
The police department also had many officers caught.
After that, places called Panchayat Samiti and the electricity company had officials caught too.
Most of the people caught were regular workers, but some were bosses.
This happened because these offices interact with many people every day, giving opportunities for bribes.
The ACB also recently caught a judge and his assistant taking money, which is unusual.
People are getting better at reporting when they are asked for bribes, which helps the ACB catch these people.
Property registration, police, and panchayat samiti departments in Maharashtra reported the highest number of anti-corruption traps in 2025.
From January 1 to November 11, 2025, 155 officials from Revenue, Land Records, and Registration departments were caught accepting bribes.
The majority of officials caught in these departments were mid-level Class III employees (136), with seven Class I officers also apprehended.
The police department ranked second with 105 officials booked for corruption, followed by Panchayat Samiti with 60 officials trapped.
In a rare instance, the Maharashtra ACB named a serving additional sessions judge as a wanted accused in a bribery case.

Why Certain Departments Have More Traps
Reasons for High Corruption Cases
Departments like Revenue, Land Records, Registration, and Police have constant and widespread interactions with a large number of citizens, providing more opportunities for corrupt officials to demand bribes for getting work done.
Citizen Behavior
Increased vigilance among citizens means they are less likely to be coerced and more likely to approach the ACB when demands for bribes are made, leading to more traps being carried out.
