Dani Alves Rape Conviction Overturned on Appeal
Former soccer star Dani Alves was accused of rape in a nightclub.
He was initially found guilty and sentenced to prison in February 2024.
The victim’s lawyer was disappointed by the court’s appeal decision.
He was sentenced to 4.5 years and later released on bail.
In March 2024, an appeals court overturned the conviction, stating there wasn't enough evidence to convict him.
The court also considered the fact that Alves had paid the victim €150,000 in damages when determining the length of the original sentence.
Alves spent time in jail before his release on bail.
Dani Alves was convicted of rape in February 2024.
The incident took place in a Barcelona nightclub on December 31, 2022.
He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
An appeal court overturned the conviction in March.
The appeal court cited insufficient evidence as the reason for the overturned conviction.
