HIRE Act Proposes Doubling H-1B Visas
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has introduced a new bill called the HIRE Act.
This bill wants to double the number of H-1B visas given each year from 65,000 to 130,000.
H-1B visas are special work permits for people from other countries who have special skills.
The bill also wants to give more money to schools to teach science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
This is because there are not enough workers in the U.S. with these skills.
The bill is supported by a group called ITServe Alliance, which represents many IT companies.
They say this will help U.S. companies find the workers they need and keep America competitive in technology.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi reintroduced the HIRE Act to double the H-1B visa cap from 65,000 to 130,000.
The bill aims to bolster U.S. competitiveness by expanding high-skilled immigration and investing in STEM education.
ITServe Alliance, the nation’s largest association of IT services organizations, supports the legislation.
The HIRE Act also directs new funding to bolster elementary and secondary school STEM programs.
President Trump recently supported H-1B visas, stating that foreign labor is necessary due to a lack of specific talents among U.S. workers.
