IndiGo Crisis: CEO Apologizes, DGCA Orders Flight Cuts
IndiGo, India's biggest airline, has been having big problems with many flights being cancelled.
This started because they didn't plan well when new rules about how long pilots can work were introduced.
The government's aviation safety group, called DGCA, has told IndiGo to reduce their flights by 5% and send a new plan by Wednesday.
IndiGo has cancelled hundreds of flights every day, which has caused big problems for passengers, including people trying to get to the Junior Hockey World Cup.
The airline is working to fix the problems and has started giving refunds to affected passengers.
Some people are worried that the new rules might make pilots too tired, which could be unsafe.
The government might also take away some of IndiGo's flight routes and give them to other airlines until IndiGo can show they can run things properly again.
IndiGo's flight disruptions have entered their ninth day, with around 180 flights cancelled on December 9, primarily from Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The DGCA has ordered IndiGo to reduce its flight schedule by 5%, focusing on high-demand routes, and submit a revised schedule by December 10.
IndiGo's operational issues stem from inadequate planning for new pilot duty rules, leading to widespread cancellations and passenger inconvenience.
The airline has begun recovering operations, with over 1,800 flights operated on December 8 and improved on-time performance.
IndiGo has processed ₹827 crore in refunds and provided accommodation and transportation for stranded passengers.
