BMC Official Discusses Mumbai's Infrastructure Projects and Future Plans
Imagine Mumbai is a big house that needs a lot of repairs and upgrades!
The city's big boss for building things, Abhijit Bangar, talked about fixing the roads.
He said that making the roads out of concrete is like giving them a stronger, longer-lasting floor that won't get potholes easily.
He hopes most of the first big road repair job will be done by the summer of 2026.
They also talked about cleaning a river, which is like making sure the house's plumbing works well so it doesn't flood.
He mentioned using smart computer programs to make sure the river cleaning is done honestly.
They are also trying to make it easier for people to walk around the city by fixing sidewalks, like making sure there are clear paths for everyone.
Sometimes, different building crews don't talk to each other, so they are creating a special team to make sure everyone plans together.
Lastly, they are planning for rainy days, trying to help water soak into the ground better instead of just flooding the streets.
Phase 1 of Mumbai's road concretisation project is expected to be 95% complete by May 2026.
The BMC is using AI to monitor Mithi River desilting progress and penalise contractors for non-compliance.
A Rs 100 crore provision has been allocated to improve Mumbai's walkability over the next 10-15 years.
The Urban Municipal Transport Authority (UMTA) is being established to improve coordination between different agencies working on transport projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
A comprehensive flood mitigation plan, developed with IIT and NDMA, focuses on increasing ground percolation and improving pumping capacity.
