MITS aids Anantapur pomegranates GI tag bid
MITS Deemed-to-be University in Madanapalle helped farmers in Anantapur apply for a special tag called a GI tag for their pomegranates.
This tag is important because it protects the name of the pomegranates, makes sure farmers get fair prices, and helps sell them in more places.
The pomegranates from Anantapur are special because they are very red, juicy, sweet, have soft seeds, and last longer.
The university worked with farmers and other groups to make this happen.
Everyone hopes this will help the farmers and make the pomegranates more popular.
MITS Deemed-to-be University facilitated the GI tag application for Anantapur pomegranates.
The application was submitted to the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai.
Anantapur pomegranates are known for their unique qualities like deep red arils and high juice content.
GI registration aims to protect the product name and boost market prospects.
The effort involved collaboration between MITS, AFLABT, and the Anantapur Pomegranate Growers and Producers Association.
