Trump Pushes California Pipeline, Faces Governor’s Opposition
President Trump posted on his social media that he wants to restart a big oil pipeline in California.
He says it will help the military and make more oil.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, says this will hurt the environment and the state’s economy.
The Energy Secretary says the pipeline is important for national security.
West Coast leaders are against the plan and plan to sue the federal government.
Trump posted on Truth Social about an executive order to restart the Sable Pipeline and boost offshore oil production.
The order would let the Department of Energy use the Defense Production Act to produce 50,000 barrels of oil per day, 20 million barrels per year, a 550% increase.
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move, calling it a war, environmental threat, and vowed to sue.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the order is vital to national security and would replace 1.5 million barrels of foreign crude each month.
West Coast governors opposed the plan, which includes six offshore lease sales 2027‑2030, and California says it will challenge it in court.
