Supreme Court Questions Pace and Design of CBSE Language Policy

Supreme Court Questions Pace and Design of CBSE Language Policy

CBSE wants students to learn three languages in school.

The plan comes from the National Education Policy and a newer school curriculum framework.

It is supposed to begin for Class IX students on July 1, 2026.

The Supreme Court worried that students may face too much extra work if the change happens suddenly.

It asked whether children should start learning the languages earlier, so they have more time to get used to them.

The court also asked whether schools will have enough teachers and classrooms for all the language choices.

It suggested giving current Class VI students one extra year before the plan begins.

The court questioned why English is counted as a foreign language.

The editorial says the policy needs careful preparation so its language-learning benefits are not weakened.
