India Unveils Sports Election Panel to Oversee Fair Polls
India’s Sports Ministry has created a new group to help sports organizations hold fair elections.
The group is called the National Sports Election Panel.
It has 20 members, including several people who previously worked in election offices.
The panel will choose officers to supervise elections for sports bodies.
The Indian Olympic Association and All India Football Federation may use this system for upcoming elections.
The panel was created because of a sports governance law passed in 2025.
The government also delayed the creation of a National Sports Tribunal.
The deadline to apply for positions on that tribunal was extended to October 11.
The tribunal is meant to settle sports disputes.
The Sports Ministry has created a 20-member National Sports Election Panel to oversee elections in national sports bodies.
The panel includes former Chief Election Commissioners Achal Kumar Jyoti and Sunil Arora, along with former Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey.
Its creation is required under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, and a related 2026 government order.
The Indian Olympic Association and All India Football Federation are among bodies expected to hold elections under the panel’s oversight.
