Urea import prices fall 60% from April peak

Urea import prices fall 60% from April peak

Farmers in India need fertilizer, a special food for plants, to grow crops like wheat and rice.

One kind of fertilizer, called urea, became very expensive after a war started in West Asia.

In April, it cost almost $1,000 for one tonne, which is a lot of money.

The Indian government had to spend lots of rupees on subsidies to keep fertilizer affordable for farmers.

But now there is good news: the price has fallen to about $390 per tonne, which is 60% cheaper.

This happened because more fertilizer is available in the world now.

India also started buying fertilizer from many different countries so it is not dependent on just a few.

The government bought 1.7 million tonnes of urea at the new lower prices.

This means farmers should have enough fertilizer for the next planting season without paying crazy prices.

Lower prices also mean the government can spend less money on subsidies.
