DGFT Proposes Exempting Low-value Exports from RCMC
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in India has suggested that small exporters should not need a special certificate called RCMC for shipments worth Rs 10,000 or less.
Right now, all exporters must get this certificate, which can cost a lot of money.
The DGFT wants to change this rule to help small exporters, especially those who sell things online.
However, some experts think the Rs 10,000 limit is too low and suggest that the rule should be changed for exporters who make up to Rs 25 lakh a year.
They also think the RCMC certificate might not be necessary at all because there are other ways to check exporter information.
DGFT proposes exempting low-value export consignments from RCMC requirement.
Current rule requires all exporters to obtain RCMC for DGFT authorisations and FTP benefits.
Proposed exemption for consignments with FOB value of Rs 10,000 or less, except for restricted items.
Annual membership fees for RCMC range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 16,000, with additional one-time fees and 18% GST.
Experts suggest higher exemption threshold or abolishing RCMC requirement altogether.
