Maharashtra Junior College Teachers Rally Against Revised Staffing Norms

Maharashtra Junior College Teachers Rally Against Revised Staffing Norms

More than 1,500 junior college teachers gathered in Pune to protest new staffing rules.

They said the rules could reduce teaching time and put almost 10,000 jobs at risk.

The teachers want older rules to remain in place.

These rules include 45-minute lectures and science practical groups of 20 students.

They also want limits on teachers’ weekly workloads to stay unchanged.

The teachers gave their demands to education officials.

Officials said they would prepare a report and arranged talks with the education minister for Monday.

The federation said it may organize a bigger statewide protest if no agreement is reached.
