India's Domestic Flight Alcohol Rules: Up to Five Litres Allowed
People who fly on planes inside India can bring some alcohol with them, but there are clear rules.
One passenger can carry up to five litres of alcohol that is between 24% and 70% strong.
The bottles must be closed, unopened, and in their original packaging.
The alcohol must go into the big suitcase that is checked in under the plane.
On most flights, you cannot carry it in your small hand bag.
Drinks like beer that are less than 24% strong have no quantity limit, but extra baggage charges may apply.
Alcohol stronger than 70% cannot be carried at all.
Passengers are not allowed to drink their own alcohol on the plane.
Two airlines, IndiGo and Akasa Air, allow a small bottle bought after security to go in the cabin bag.
Bottles should be packed well so they do not break or leak.
Passengers on domestic flights in India may carry up to 5 litres of alcohol with 24% to 70% alcohol by volume in checked-in baggage.
Alcohol bottles must be sealed, unopened, and in their original retail packaging, with no bottle holding more than 5 litres.
Alcohol above 70% alcohol by volume cannot be carried on domestic flights.
Beer and drinks below 24% alcohol have no quantity limit in checked-in baggage, but excess baggage charges may apply.
Passengers cannot consume their own alcohol onboard, and only IndiGo and Akasa Air allow up to 1 litre bought after security in cabin bags.
