US Sets Zero Tariff on Indian Rare-Disease Drugs

US Sets Zero Tariff on Indian Rare-Disease Drugs

The United States has set the tariff on certain medicines from India at zero percent.

These medicines include rare-disease and specialty drugs.

A tariff is an extra charge placed on imported goods.

Indian drug companies send many medicines to the United States.

Most of those shipments are generic medicines.

Generics are not affected by the new tariff for now.

However, that exemption may not last permanently.

The Commerce Secretary is expected to review the issue within a year.
