Andhra Pradesh Terminates 70 Doctors Over Unauthorized Extended Absences

The Andhra Pradesh government has dismissed 70 doctors who stayed away from work for more than a year without permission.

The doctors worked in different medical specialties.

Officials first asked them to explain their absence.

Another 193 doctors may also face action.

This includes 154 doctors in one health department and 39 doctors in medical education.

The 39 medical education doctors have been given one last chance to return.

Some doctors said their absence was connected to private work, their workplace, or personal and health problems.

Officials said 493 doctors across several health departments were absent for long periods and ordered departments to follow the rules quickly.
