Irrigation Wing Challenges High Power Tariff for Lift Schemes
The Irrigation Department in Telangana has written a letter to the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) asking them to lower the power charges for lift irrigation schemes.
They say the current charges are too high and not fair.
The department wants the charges to be the same as what farmers pay for their pump sets.
They also point out that the cost of power is cheaper during the monsoon season.
The department has paid for all the power lines and substations needed for these schemes.
They suggest that the power tariff should be based on the cost of generating power in hydro stations or the cost of buying power during the monsoon and winter seasons.
They also want the demand charges of Rs 300 per month per KVA to be stopped for government lift irrigation schemes.
Irrigation Department requests TGERC to reduce high power tariff and demand charges for lift irrigation schemes.
Current power load for lift irrigation schemes is 2,819.80 MW, projected to increase to 7,348.00 MW by 2026.
Department argues for tariff reduction to the cost of power generation in hydro stations or power purchase cost during monsoon and winter.
Irrigation Department has paid for all power lines, substations, and additional feeder works for pumping stations.
Department suggests stopping demand charges of Rs 300 per month per KVA for government lift irrigation schemes.
