Stocks Plunge Amid Weak Jobs Data and Tariffs
The stock market went down on Friday.
This happened because a report showed fewer people got jobs than expected, and the government announced new taxes on goods coming into the U.S. Investors are worried about a slowing economy.
Because of this, they think the Federal Reserve might lower interest rates in September to try and help the economy grow again.
U.S. stocks experienced a significant sell-off on Friday, wiping out over $1.1 trillion in market value.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.23%, S&P 500 dropped 1.6%, and Nasdaq Composite declined 2.24%.
The market downturn was triggered by a weaker-than-expected July jobs report.
New tariffs imposed by President Trump on imports from various countries, including the EU, also contributed to the market decline.
Investors have increased their bets for a September interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.
