Treasury Turnover Raises Questions About Trump Tax Agenda

Treasury Turnover Raises Questions About Trump Tax Agenda

Many important officials have left the U.S. Treasury Department during President Trump’s second term.

Seven of the 16 officials confirmed by the Senate have departed.

Some reportedly disagreed with White House requests about tax audits and private taxpayer information.

One proposal would have shared taxpayer information with the Department of Homeland Security for immigration enforcement.

Another proposed paying Trump allies through a $1.8 billion fund connected to IRS audits, but Senate Republicans opposed it.

Experts worry that empty jobs could slow the work needed to carry out tax laws.

They also worry Treasury might be less prepared for a major economic emergency.

The White House disagrees and says Treasury is successfully advancing Trump’s economic plans.
