Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann addresses bus strike issues
Punjab's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, surprised everyone by visiting a bus stand very early in the morning to talk to passengers about their problems.
At the same time, some bus workers were protesting because they were worried about their jobs.
The government fired 152 of these workers and asked the others to stop protesting.
The workers say the government is trying to bring in private buses, which would hurt their livelihoods.
Some protests turned violent, and a police officer got hurt.
The Chief Minister asked the workers to talk things out instead of protesting.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann visited Kurali bus stand at 4:45 am to listen to commuters' grievances.
The government terminated 152 contractual employees and issued notices to others to end their strike.
Protesters alleged the kilometre-based bus scheme would bring in private operators and dismantle the state-run transport system.
Some protests turned violent, with a police officer suffering burn injuries in Sangrur.
CM Mann urged protesters to engage in dialogue and announced the introduction of 900 new buses.
