Trump Orders Commission to Design NASA-Led US Space Academy
President Donald Trump wants the United States to create a new school for space professionals.
He signed an order to start planning the school.
The school could train astronauts, engineers, scientists, military members and other workers.
NASA would lead the proposed academy.
A special commission will study how the academy should work and where it should be located.
The commission must make recommendations within 120 days.
Johnson Space Center in Houston has been identified as a possible site, but the final location is not decided.
The plan may need money and approval for changes to the law.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 28 to begin creating a United States Space Academy.
The proposed NASA-led institution would train astronauts, scientists, engineers, operators, civil servants and military personnel.
A Presidential Commission has 120 days to recommend its governance, curriculum, admissions, service obligations and permanent location.
NASA identified Johnson Space Center in Houston as the proposed site, while the order leaves the permanent location for the commission to recommend.
The academy would require funding and possibly legislative action before implementation.
