Bengaluru Plans Waste Overhaul With GPS-Tracked Collection

Bengaluru Plans Waste Overhaul With GPS-Tracked Collection

Bengaluru makes more garbage each day than its current collection system can handle.

The government plans to add more vehicles and increase collection capacity.

Garbage trucks will use GPS so officials can see whether they follow their routes.

The city will be divided into 33 waste-collection packages.

People are being asked to separate wet and dry waste and give it to the collection trucks.

The minister said people should not leave garbage on roadsides.

Large waste producers, such as establishments generating significant amounts of waste, must process or compost waste where required.

The government says it will support the handling of waste processed at the source without an extra service fee.

Officials will test the new approach for three to four months before reviewing it.
