RBI Governor Highlights Economic Risks from War and Monsoon
The RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra, talked about the big risks to India's economy.
He said the war in West Asia and the uncertain monsoon are the main worries.
The monsoon is very important because farming makes up 17% of India's economy, and many people depend on it.
The monsoon has been late this year, which could make food prices go up and slow down the economy.
The Governor also said that the RBI will focus on keeping inflation low, which helps the economy grow.
He mentioned that the banking system is strong and the rupee is stable.
He also talked about new rules to protect people from digital banking frauds.
Overall, he said India's economy is doing well, but we need to be careful about these risks.
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra identified the West Asia conflict and monsoon uncertainty as key risks to the Indian economy.
Agriculture contributes 17% to India's GDP, and 58% of the rural workforce depends on it.
The monsoon has been erratic, delaying planting and reducing the cropped area by 16% year-on-year.
The RBI will prioritize inflation control while supporting economic growth, with an inflation forecast of 5.1% for FY27.
The RBI will introduce a limited liability framework for digital banking frauds from January 1, 2027, with compensation up to ₹25,000.
