France Announces More Than €1 Billion for Drought-Hit Farmers

France’s farmers were badly affected by very hot weather and a lack of rain.

Crops, grazing land and water supplies were damaged.

The French government announced more than €1 billion to help them.

About €520 million will be paid quickly to farms that suffered weather damage.

Other support will help farmers buy seeds, animal feed and other supplies.

Farmers may also receive tax relief, help with social-security payments and fuel assistance.

The farmers’ union says the total losses could be more than €10 billion.

Another heatwave is expected in France this week.
