Sikkim Mandates Rs 50 Fee for Tourists
The Sikkim government has told all places where tourists stay, like hotels and homestays, to collect Rs 50 from each tourist.
This money goes to a special fund to help make tourism better and improve things like roads.
The government checks if they are doing this through a special system.
If they don't follow the rules, they might have to pay a fine or even lose their registration.
This started in March 2025, and the government wants everyone to follow the rules right away.
All tourist accommodation providers in Sikkim must collect Rs 50 from each tourist for the TSD fund.
The fund supports sustainable tourism development, including infrastructure improvements.
Non-compliance can result in fines of Rs 5,000 for the first month and Rs 10,000 for the second month, with de-registration after three months of non-compliance.
The government monitors the collection through the Atithi Guest Information System.
The order was issued on November 30, 2025, with the fund collection starting in March 2025.
