High Court Dismisses CBI Probe Plea for IPS Officer's Death
A police officer named Y Puran Kumar was found dead, and people suspected he died by suicide.
He left a note mentioning that some senior police officials allegedly discriminated against him based on his caste.
A group asked the court to have a special agency, the CBI, investigate because they were worried the local police might not do a fair job.
However, the High Court decided that the local police were already investigating properly.
They had formed a special team, talked to many people, and gathered evidence.
The court felt there was no need to involve the CBI and dismissed the request.
The court also noted that some of the officers mentioned in the note had faced consequences, like one being sent on leave and another replaced.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed a plea for a CBI investigation into the alleged suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.
The court stated that the ongoing probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Chandigarh Police was adequate and showed no unnecessary delay.
Y Puran Kumar was found dead on October 7 and left a note accusing senior officers of caste-based discrimination.
The Chandigarh Administration argued that the Public Interest Litigation seeking a CBI probe was a 'publicity stunt'.
The SIT had registered an FIR on October 9, formed the team on October 10, named 14 individuals in the FIR, and examined 22 witnesses.
