Chaliha Stuns Han to Clinch Maiden BWF World Tour Title
A badminton player from India named Ashmita Chaliha won a big tournament called the Korea Masters.
It was her very first time winning a title on the worldwide BWF badminton tour.
She beat a strong player from China named Han Qian Xi in the final.
Ashmita lost the first game, but she kept fighting and won the next two games to become the champion.
The whole match lasted about 53 minutes.
Ashmita is 26 years old and comes from a place in India called Assam.
She hurt her knee and had to take a break from playing, and this win was part of her comeback.
She beat many tough players on the way, including the top seed from Japan.
Another player from India, Tanvi Sharma, had won a different tournament a week earlier.
With this win, Ashmita's world ranking is expected to climb into the top 40 for the first time.
Ashmita Chaliha won her maiden BWF World Tour title at the Korea Masters Super 300 in Asan, South Korea, on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
She defeated fourth seed Han Qian Xi of China 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in a women's singles final that lasted 53 minutes.
The 26-year-old from Assam, ranked world No. 50, returned to competition in May after a three-month layoff following surgery for a medial meniscus tear in her right knee.
The victory followed Tanvi Sharma's Taipei Open win, giving Indian women back-to-back BWF World Tour singles titles.
She beat top seed Hina Akechi, Ririna Hiramoto, Kim Min Ji and compatriot Rakshitha Ramraj en route, and the result will take her into the world's top 40 for the first time.
