Chandigarh Mayor's Term Extension Proposed
The leader of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, wants to make the mayor's job term longer.
Right now, the mayor only serves for one year, but Kataria thinks this is too short.
He wants to change it to five years or maybe two and a half years.
He said he will talk to the central government to make this happen.
Some people think a longer term is good because the mayor can get more work done.
But there are also concerns that the mayor might keep all the power and not share it with others.
Kataria also talked about how the city needs to focus on things like clean water, good roads, and other important services.
He wants the city to use its money wisely and make sure everything is fair and transparent.
Chandigarh's UT Administrator, Gulab Chand Kataria, proposed extending the mayor's term from 1 year to 5 years or 2.5 years.
Kataria plans to discuss the proposal with the central government's Home Minister.
The current one-year term is seen as too short for effective governance.
Panchkula and Mohali already have a five-year mayoral term.
Kataria emphasized the need for better water supply, sanitation, infrastructure, and public services in Chandigarh.
