Maharashtra Government’s Drought Trigger Announcement Draws Aaditya Thackeray’s Anger

Maharashtra’s government said many parts of the state were facing drought.

It declared drought in 265 out of 358 talukas.

The government used a system called Trigger-1 to describe the first stage of drought response.

This stage is used when rainfall is more than 25 percent below normal and dry weather lasts 21 days.

Aaditya Thackeray criticized the government for focusing on the word “trigger.”

He said people already needed drinking water and immediate help.

He also said some farmers were still receiving bank repayment notices.

Thackeray asked the government to waive educational fees and provide more relief to affected families.
