India Rejects Musk’s Starlink Blocking Claim, Says Rules Apply Equally
Elon Musk said that unnamed powerful people were stopping Starlink from starting satellite internet service in India.
He said they wanted to protect their business position, but he did not name anyone.
India’s government said the rules are fair and apply to all satellite companies.
Starlink, Jio Satellite Communications and Eutelsat OneWeb have licences, but a licence is not enough to start service.
Each company must pass security checks and then seek permission to use spectrum.
The government says all three are at about the same stage.
OneWeb chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal also said his company is waiting for approvals.
Starlink says it has built 20 gateway sites in India and prepared security controls.
Elon Musk alleged on October 7 that unnamed “oligarchs” were blocking Starlink in India to protect a monopoly.
India’s Ministry of Communications rejected the claim as “baseless and misconceived” and said its authorisation framework is fair and non-discriminatory.
