Court Discharges Two in SIMI-IM Conspiracy Case
A court in New Delhi has let two men go free because the police did not have enough proof to show they were part of a plan to bring back two banned groups, SIMI and IM.
The court said the police's evidence was not good enough because it was mostly statements the men made while in police custody, which the court said can't be used as proof.
The men were accused of being part of a big plan to start these groups again in India, but the court said there was no real proof against them.
So, the court decided to let them go.
A Delhi court discharged two accused in a SIMI-IM conspiracy case due to insufficient evidence.
The prosecution's case relied on confessional statements made in police custody, which were inadmissible.
The court found no admissible material to show the accused were part of a conspiracy to revive SIMI and IM.
The accused were charged under Sections 18 and 20 of the UAPA and Section 120B of the IPC.
The prosecution claimed the accused were senior cadres involved in an international conspiracy.
