India Makes First-Ever Air Shipment of GI-Tagged Limes to UK
India has just sent special limes, which are like VIP fruits because they have a special tag showing where they come from and how good they are.
These special limes, called Indi Lime from Karnataka and Puliyankudi Lime from Tamil Nadu, were sent to the United Kingdom on a plane.
This is the very first time these particular limes have been sent by air.
It's a big deal because it helps Indian farmers sell their special products all over the world.
India has sent other special products before, like limes to the UAE and apples and apricots to Middle Eastern countries.
This helps show the world how great Indian fruits and vegetables are.
India has conducted its first-ever air shipment of GI-tagged Indi Lime from Karnataka and Puliyankudi Lime from Tamil Nadu to the United Kingdom.
The export was facilitated by APEDA, a department under India's Commerce Ministry.
Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted this as a milestone that empowers farmers and strengthens India's agricultural product presence globally.
Previously, India exported 3 MT of GI-tagged Swadeshi Lime to the UAE.
Other GI-tagged products like Gharwali apples and apricots from Kargil have also been exported to markets in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar.
