HDFC Bank CEO Jagdishan to Step Down Amid Governance Scrutiny

HDFC Bank CEO Jagdishan to Step Down Amid Governance Scrutiny

Sashidhar Jagdishan will stop being the boss of HDFC Bank when his term ends on October 26, 2026.

He has led the bank for six years.

During that time, HDFC Bank merged with HDFC Ltd in a very large business deal.

The bank has recently faced questions about its governance and business practices.

One issue involves payments connected to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation.

The bank called that conduct business overreach, not deliberate wrongdoing, but fined three senior employees.

A former chairman also resigned after raising concerns about ethics, though outside reviewers and the RBI said they did not find those concerns substantiated.

The bank also found compliance problems at its Dubai branch involving the sale of Credit Suisse bonds.

Now the bank must find a new leader and reassure investors.
