Mumbai BMC Targets Illegal Posters, Banners And Hoardings

Mumbai’s civic body, called the BMC, plans to remove illegal posters and hoardings.

The drive will start on September 25, after Ganeshotsav.

These advertisements are stuck on bridges, flyovers and monorail pillars.

Mayor Ritu Tawde wants people shown in the advertisements to face fines.

She also wants legal cases to be considered.

Some stickers are hard to remove and can leave marks on public structures.

The BMC says it removes 15,000 to 20,000 illegal hoardings each year.

About 45% are linked to political birthday greetings or festivals.
