Finland Seizes Ship Over Suspected Cable Damage
Finland stopped a big ship called the Fitburg because they think it hurt some important underwater internet cables.
The ship was going from Russia to Israel and had a flag from St. Vincent and Grenadines.
The police took 14 people from the ship, from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, and are checking if the ship really did the damage.
The cables are very important for talking between Finland and Estonia.
The leaders of Finland and Estonia are working together to figure out what happened and if they need to do anything about it.
There are concerns that Russia might be trying to cause problems in this area.
Finnish authorities seized the cargo vessel Fitburg suspected of damaging undersea telecom cables in the Gulf of Finland.
14 crew members from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan were detained after the vessel's anchor chain was seen dragging.
The vessel sailed under the flag of St. Vincent and Grenadines and was en route from St. Petersburg to Haifa.
The damaged cable belongs to telecommunications service provider Elisa and is critical infrastructure; a second cable owned by Arelion also suffered an outage.
Finnish and Estonian authorities are cooperating to investigate and potentially prosecute the incident, with concerns about potential hybrid threats from Russia.
