Priyanka Gandhi Urges Kerala to Protect Tribal Forest Rights
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress MP, wrote a letter to the Kerala government asking them to protect the forest rights of tribal groups, especially those that are particularly vulnerable.
She said that these tribes have not been given their rights under a law called the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
She also mentioned that things like people taking over forests, cutting down trees, and changes in the climate are making life hard for these tribes.
She suggested that the government should teach these tribes about their rights and how to protect their way of life.
She also talked about a tribe called the Cholanaikkan, which she visited, and how they have a lot of knowledge about taking care of the environment.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged the Kerala government to protect the forest rights of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
She highlighted that the rights under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, have not been granted to the PVTGs so far.
Gandhi pointed out the disruption caused to tribal lives by forest encroachment, deforestation, climate change, and wildlife attacks.
She called for organizing training programs to sensitize tribal communities about their rights.
Gandhi praised the Cholanaikkan tribe's commitment to protecting the ecosystem and their traditional knowledge.
