Supreme Court: Stone Pelting In J&K Not Ordinary, Lists Separatist Leader's Plea
The highest court in India, the Supreme Court, made a statement that throwing stones in a region called Jammu and Kashmir is a serious offense, not a minor one.
They were talking about a man named Shabir Shah, a leader from that area who has been in jail for a long time.
He asked the court for old papers about why he was put in jail many years ago.
The court questioned why he waited so long and suggested he ask the local government for them.
The court is also looking at his request to be let out of jail.
A government agency, the NIA, believes he is connected to bad groups and has done things like encourage people and get money for harmful activities.
The court is still considering these serious charges and his request for freedom.
The Supreme Court remarked that stone pelting in Jammu and Kashmir is not an ordinary action.
The court asked separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah to approach the NC government for his detention orders dating back to 1970.
The NIA was granted three weeks to respond to Shah's affidavit concerning his links with Pakistan-based terror networks.
Shah has been in jail for 39 years on charges including speeches followed by stone pelting.
The Supreme Court is considering Shah's plea challenging the denial of bail by the Delhi High Court in a terror funding case.
