PM Internship Scheme Set for Overhaul in 2026
The government is planning to make big changes to the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) to help more young people get jobs.
Right now, the scheme pays interns Rs 5,000 per month, but this might go up to Rs 11,800.
The government also wants more companies to join the scheme, from 549 to 6,000.
They want to include more types of companies and make the scheme available to more young people, from ages 18 to 30.
The changes are being made because many people are dropping out of the scheme, and the government wants to make it better.
The new rules might also let interns work from home sometimes and make the training shorter in some jobs.
The PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) is set for an overhaul to increase participation and address high dropout rates.
The monthly stipend for interns may be raised from Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,800 to account for higher living costs in cities.
The number of participating companies may be increased from 549 to 6,000, including more sectors and top firms.
Age eligibility for the scheme may be expanded from 21-24 years to 18-30 years to include a wider range of youth.
Proposed changes include introducing a hybrid work model and reducing the internship duration in certain sectors.
