Farmers Plan Nationwide Yatra for MSP Legalization
Some farmer leaders in India are planning a big journey, called a Yatra, to go from the southern tip of India (Kanyakumari) all the way to the northernmost point (Kashmir) and then to Delhi.
This journey will start in early February 2026 and end on March 19, 2026.
The farmers want to talk to other farmers about important things like making sure they get a fair price for their crops (called MSP), getting rid of their debts, and leaving a big international trade group called WTO.
They also want to protest against new laws about seeds that they think will make farmers depend on foreign seeds.
The farmers hope to have a big meeting in Delhi at the end of their journey to talk about these issues.
Farmer leaders announce a nationwide Kisan Jagriti Yatra from Kanyakumari to Delhi starting February 2, 2026, culminating on March 19, 2026.
The yatra aims to create awareness among farmers about demands like legal MSP, debt waiver, and exit from WTO.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) seeks permission for a rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi at the culmination of the yatra.
Farmer leaders allege that the Draft Seeds Bill will make Indian farmers dependent on foreign GM seeds, leading to debt traps.
Previous peaceful protests, like the one at Jantar Mantar, give farmers hope for permission for the upcoming rally.
