BRICS Declaration to Emphasize Terrorism, Reform and Global South

BRICS Declaration to Emphasize Terrorism, Reform and Global South

BRICS countries are preparing a shared statement at a meeting in New Delhi.

They agree that terrorism should be condemned and fought in every form.

They also support changing global institutions and strengthening cooperation between countries.

The group is expected to back India’s effort to obtain a United Nations Security Council seat.

India wants BRICS to speak more strongly for developing countries, called the Global South.

It also wants the group to focus on helping people, including women, farmers and entrepreneurs.

Members are still discussing how to describe the war in West Asia.

Some countries disagree about the wording, so negotiators may use general language about respecting national borders and sovereignty.

The summit includes leaders and officials from many countries and international organizations.
